Metro Audi Restaurant of the Year 2011

Metro magazine has announced the winners in its Metro Audi Restaurant of the Year Awards 2011. I was lucky enough to be on the judging panel, and while I found some should-have-been-great places a disappointment due to all manner of faults, I can say that as diners in this city we are lucky enough to expect damn fine food, service and surrounds from a large proportion of our restaurants, which means if you eat at one of Metro’s Top 50, you can’t really go wrong.

Right now, there is some quite thrilling talent out there in this city when it comes to dining out. Supreme winner The Grove has set the gold standard for a second year running, and Makoto Tokuyama and his superb Cocoro have raised the bar significantly for Asian dining; both gained well-deserved awards. Coco’s Cantina featured prominently in the awards, too, for their revolutionising of bistro eating. For full details and a guide to the city’s top 50 restaurants, get the new issue of Metro, out now.
